Vishal’s Makutam: A New Chapter Begins as He Takes the Director’s Seat

The actor-producer Vishal is all set for a landmark film with Makutam, marking his 35th acting outing and the 99th production of the prestigious Super Good Films banner. Directed by Ravi Arasu and produced by R. B. Choudhary, the film launches with a striking first look that hints at a bold, multi-layered narrative.The first look poster revealed Vishal in three distinct avatars — a retro carefree look, a regal authoritative look, and a formal disciplined look — signalling that his character may traverse different phases or identities. The teaser opens with evocative visuals: underwater shots, a scorpion emerging, a massive ship, and then scenes at a shore — suggesting a storyline with water, port/backdrop and layered conflict.

Originally, Makutam was to be directed by Ravi Arasu, but Vishal revealed that he had been closely involved in shaping the film’s creative direction even before officially taking over. The actor said that this move wasn’t sudden — he had been “ghost-directing” the film and eventually decided to make his role official to ensure the vision stayed true to what the story demanded.His experience as an actor and producer has given him a deep understanding of the filmmaking process, which he now brings to Makutam in his new dual role.

Vishal’s previous film, Madha Gaja Raja, was filmed in 2013 but released in 2025. Made on an approximate budget of ₹15 crore, the film went on to earn a worldwide collection of ₹56.15 crore, showcasing Vishal’s consistent box-office appeal and potential to deliver commercially successful projects.

While specific details about the storyline are still under wraps, Makutam is expected to be a large-scale action drama infused with emotional depth and strong character arcs.
