Hiroshi Tanahashi Vs. Jon Moxley Set For AEW×NJPW: Forbidden Door
At Sunday's NJPW Dominion Show, a major AEW Interim World Championship Eliminator Series match between Hiroshi Tanahashi and Hiroki Goto took place.
In a back-and-forth contest, Tanahashi came out on top. Tanahashi landed a crossbody and high fly flow to win the match. He will now take on AEW's Jon Moxley in the final of the Forbidden Door to be crowned Interim AEW World Heavyweight Champion at a pay-per-view event on June 26.
As previously mentioned, AEW was to be crowned an interim champion as World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk suffered a leg injury and would be sidelined after surgery. AEW originally booked Tanahashi vs. Punk for the show.
AEW×NJPW: Forbidden Door will be co-produced by the U.S.-based promotion All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and Japan-based New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW). It will take place on June 26, 2022, at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, and will be the first AEW/NJPW co-promoted event.
